Why should I appoint my
own Loss Assessor? |
 |
A
major flood or fire to your property is one of
the most stressful times in ones life. You will
not only have to deal with the insurance company’s
appointed loss adjuster, who has been employed
to represent the insurance company’s interest,
but you will also require to prepare and present
your own claim as this is not a function of a loss
adjuster. A Loss Assessor is there to alleviate
stress, formulate and prepare your claim and negotiate
a settlement with the adjuster. It is the assessor’s
sole responsibility of maximising your claim, making
sure you receive every penny that you are entitled
to.

At what stage should I employ a Loss
Assessor? |
 |
It is most important that you appoint
your own insurance Loss Assessor at the earliest opportunity
as the adjuster who has been appointed by your insurance
company will require meeting with you within a few days
of the incident occurring. The adjuster is there to investigate
the circumstances of the incident and report to your insurers;
therefore, it is most important that you have independent
representation at that the initial meeting which can sometimes
last up to 2 hours. |

What will Salmon Assessors charge me? |
 |
Salmon Assessors work on a no-win-no-fee
basis and that our fees are based on a small percentage
of the final agreed settlement. Unlike many solicitors
or some assessors, who charge an upfront fee, Salmon Assessors
only charge you once you have received monies from your
insurance company. |

 |
How long will it take for my claim
to be settled? |
 |
This would normally depend upon the
type of claim you are making. As with most burglaries,
the average settlement period is approximately 3 months.
However, this can take slightly longer due to the complexity
of the claim. As with fires and floods, the length of time
is determined by the severity of the incident. On average,
most serious fires and floods can take up to 6 months.
Salmon Assessors will do everything possible to mitigate
the time it takes to settle your claim. |

 |
What if I need to employ the services
of Architects and Surveyors? |
 |
With the majority of major fire and
flood claims where structural damage has occurred, it will
be necessary for a Surveyor to be appointed who will be
able to inspect the damage and formulate a specification
of works. Any fees incurred due to Surveyors and Architects
are normally covered under the terms of your policy. It
may also be necessary in some cases for your Insurers to
appoint their own nominated restoration company, which
would normally be paid by your Insurers. |

|
 |
Will Salmon Assessors make any charge
to me if my claim is not paid? |
 |
Salmon Assessors work on a no-win-no-fee
basis and on the rare occasion that it can be established
that neither your Insurers nor any third parties are liable
then Salmon Assessors make no charge for their services. |
